Cortese Climate Kids Show airs on CreaTV

CreaTV’s CorteseClimate Kids Show has hit the airwaves, offering children – and grownups – important lessons about conservingenergy and water, recycling trash and finding new food sources. Inspired by my Silicon Valley Kids Climate Club, the series follows four Bay Area middle school students as they learn about sustainability and taking care of our environment in light of today’s scientific evidence of the effects of global warming. This series is funded through PGE and the City of San Jose. You can watch the first episode at 4 p.m. on Wednesdays and 8:30 a.m. on Saturdays on Cable Channel 28. There will be a new episode broadcast each month for six months. You can also watch the shows on your computer. Click to see the first episode. On each show, the kids somehow learn to tap into my computer and talk to me on Skype. Yes, I make a cameo appearance on the show, but it’s all in the interest of promoting the ways that we can protect our planet from the effects of climate change. I started the Cortese Climate Kids Club at the urging of my youngest son Matthewto introduce children in grades 3 through 12 to simple tips they can use to help protect Mother Earth. We now have over 2,000 members across the county. I give presentations at local schools and to youth groups, and children sign a card, pledging to: - Turn off light when leaving rooms - Turn off water faucet while brushing teeth - Ride bike to school or to the library with parents - Bring reusable bags to the grocery stores. - Change light bulbs to compact fluorescent light bulbs - Make sure the heater in their home is set to 68 degrees and the A/C is set to 78degrees - Tell their friends how they can help the environment I believe that, one child at a time, we can completely reform how we value our natural resources. If you know someone who might be interested in joining the club, or if you are involved in a youth group and would like me to do a presentation, please contact my office at or email me at or .
